The New James Bond

Daniel Craig: the first blond James Bond

There was much debate over who will be the next bond. Clive Owen seemed the best choice. I still think Owen would have been the best Bond, but Craig looks like he could pull the role off. They go on about him being blond, but I bet they dye his hair.

The biggest problem with all of this is that Bond movies have sucked for a long, long time. It's not that the source material isn't interesting (James Gardner has done good stuff with the books), it's that the films try to capture the mainstream while portraying the Bond world instead of just letting it be a Bond film.

Not that this hasn't been a recurring theme in Bond movies. Think back to the kitschy Roger Moore-era Bond. They tied in to whatever seemed popular at the time. But for some reason they could pull it off. Probably based on the fact they were still working with Ian Flemming's work. They hadn't gone off the beaten path yet.

Now, where the hell is Bond?
